Back in Vic now. Was briefly here for a few hours this morning (driving from Pinnaroo, SA, to Balranald, NSW

Energy and patience levels very very low. Only just left Echuca, so still a few hours from home. Probably gonna get back about 9:30. Sure hope past me tidied up before leaving (genuinely don’t remember)

Anywho, I sorted out my shop yesterday. Will be delivered tomorrow evening, so I can have a sleep in. Gonna smash some KFC tonight, and might order some lunch in tomorrow. Who wants to cook

Edit: KFC has been smashes. Also remembered that I ordered an ABBA vinyl from Kmart (which they apparently sell for black Thursday or whatever the stupid sale thing is called). I don’t have a vinyl player but oh well, I’m a top 0.05% ABBA fan according to Spotify

FFS someone backed into my car when doing school pick up. Thankfully not much damage and to their credit they hung around to give me their details, but jesus I do not need the headache.

I can empathise,I’ve been hit twice in the past year in the school scrum and one of those accidents took my car out for 6 weeks.

Actually I shouldn’t say accident. I should say negligence. People lose their fucking minds during that time.

Whatever I save on rent and gas connection fees at this place I’ll definitely be making up for in air-conditioning - despite having the extractor fan on and blinds and windows firmly closed the place is a furnace. I can feel the fire from behind the blinds in this west facing bedroom. It’s hotter than it is outside.

Off to have dinner with a friend shortly but I think I’ll need to have the AC on timer while I’m out so that I can sleep in this damn place tonight 😮‍💨

It might be worth having a little air or foam mattress to sleep in a cooler room when it’s bad. I also would put tinfoil on the sunny side windows.

West facing bedrooms are the worst

So much about this place that is just absolutely not what I’d choose or want, and I’m still paying so much, sigh. Not gonna focus on that tho.

My mum might visit for a bit in Jan so I was thinking of getting a roll up foam mattress anyway, used to have one in a swag but I’ve given that away. At a stretch I could sleep on the couch with my legs bent, or resting on the arms

Used to see those at other places, looks so ghetto but I might seriously consider it (and too bad if it reflects right off into other peoples windows across the carpark) because it’s just untenable otherwise. I’ve just come home and the air-conditioning was on for an hour and then off for an hour and it’s still hot as fuck in here, there’s no cross ventilation even with all the windows open now.

Wish I had a way to stick them on the outside of the windows, that’s what needs to stop getting hot in the first place

    Morning everyoneeeee 🤗 TGIF.
The weeks are zooming by so fast for me at the moment. I feel like I blink and it’s Thursday and then the weekend. Not sure if this is good because I’m not feeling like work is dragging on so long all week, or bad because life is just slipping by quickly

What an utter disappointment this government has been. Absolute reactive, populist nonsense.

No wonder they are rarely in power. Not that the Liberals are any better mind you.

There are no penalties for parents or kids that flout this, kids can easily get around it with parents ids or vpns, and Albanese even admits that they will and that them being able to is beside the point. So… what is the point? It’s just performative security theatre and a convenient excuse to increase surveillance.

The Liberals are worse by far but both parties are terrible.

If this does apply to AZ, I wonder how Nath/lodion plan on handling it. I probably trust them a little more than Google/Facebook, but the idea of sending anyone my ID is terrifying to me. I think they might be angling towards using MyGovID (which they’ve now renamed “MyID”), where you send them a copy of every form of ID you have, then they’ll handle the verification through some kind of API. But unless I know for certain the only thing returned to whoever’s asking is “yes, this person is over the age of 16”, I’m not going to be using it. I’ll just use a VPN on everything

Nath/Lodion don’t need to know my name, and the government don’t need to know my username

            Yeah, I’m cautiously watching too.

That reminds me. There was something about PayPal telling merchants your name and such, I have to go double check and deal with that too if so.

Data brokering has gone wild, everything is now blatantly galloping to squeeze as much as it can

Yeah. I’ve donated before, and I didn’t realise PayPal would publish my name, do I think Lodion probably does have my name in an email somewhere. But I don’t think it’s directly tied to the username I gave Kofi, so he’d need to go dig through it, then cross reference the dates/times/amounts to figure it out. Plus, it also exposed his name, so that makes me a little less worried about it

It’s a massive barrier to me donating to stuff. I could spare a few dollars but am wary of risking my financial security or leaking my details.

FWIW, I have paid/donated to things with pseudonyms before, and I’ve never had my bank block them before. You’re not meant to, and if your bank isn’t shit like mine, they should block it (especially if a credit card). Another option is using one of those visa gift card doo-dads, but idk if they work with PayPal

I think they’re forgetting that all the people they’re banning are going to be able to vote soon, a large portion the election after next. Depending on when the election is called, I’ll probably be voting in the coming election myself. They were already hanging on to my vote by the skin of their teeth - now they’ve gone and completely lost it, and I’m not even directly affected by their BS.

Sure makes my yearly VPN subscription worth it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Aussie Zone is definitely captured by the new laws because the definition of “age-restricted social media platform” is so broad.

However, the legislative rules (which are not published yet and can be changed at any time by the relevant minister) would likely exclude platforms below a certain size. The rules are the same document that will include Snapchat but exclude video games, for example.

I think once the rules are published there’s going to be a lot of criticism and, hopefully, revisions. It doesn’t make sense that Aussie Zone be so restrictive about user age.

Online gaming isn’t covered… as least according to one source. Lemmit DT Minecraft server? Some old free game and make a guild? 🤔

Then again it has similar issues to things like Discord in that it’s fast paced and hard to catch up on at your leisure. I know everyone has different work and sleep schedules.

I’d totally be down for an old school v bulletin forum if that could sneak under the radar in any way at all. Potentially even volunteering for mod services if absolutely necessary. However I’m not sure if the software or whatever is as secure as modern tech or whatever. Not really my field. Edit: Holy crap hosting isn’t necessarily cheap.

Edit 2: Oh man… what happens with places like Whirlpool :(

So the solution to being overworked from the general manager is:

    Wait for it:

    FUCKING TIME MANAGEMENT!!!

because of course im sitting around jerking off all day and not busting my ass the whole time.

I’m out as soon as I have a new offer. I don’t want them to match it.

Now they get what they pay for. The pace slows to match the salary.
