It’s dark to call this uplifting. The positive version of this is that we have access to amazing medical help if we choose not to dismiss it

respondents who identified as liberals in wave 4 but ‘became conservative’ by wave 5 (Fig. 2, second plot) were slightly less healthy than other liberals in wave 4, but they became much less healthy than liberals (and indeed other conservatives) by wave 5. Meanwhile, people who became liberal between waves were healthier in wave 4 and became, if anything, more healthy by wave 5.

Yep. Being woke makes you healthier.

Death itself isn’t what’s being celebrated here; but the cessation of evil that comes with it in this context.

I feel pretty safe with the assumption that every single one of us would prefer that these conservatives are rehabilitated and undergo a behavior change of their own volition… but we’ve had a lifetime to observe directly, and generations to study, the fact that such an outcome is pure fantasy.

We’ve sailed right past all the less extreme options, and are left with waiting for the deaths of our abusers. The end of their abuse absolutely is uplifting, despite the grim circumstances it requires.

          From the sidebar (emphasis mine):

This is a sanctuary for those seeking a break from the incessant negativity and rage (e.g. schadenfreude) often found in today’s news cycle. From acts of everyday kindness to large-scale philanthropic efforts, from individual achievements to community triumphs, we bring you news—in text form or otherwise—that gives hope, fosters empathy, and strengthens the belief in humanity’s capacity for good, from a quality outlet that does not publish bad copies of copies of copies.

The article made me feel schadenfreude and a sense of retribution. I don’t think it aligns with the spirit of this community. I’d be okay with seeing it elsewhere.

I also don’t agree that political views are so entrenched in people and that such extreme options are all that’s left. But I get the frustration this is stemming from.

Schadenfreude is joy derived from the misfortune of others - while you may be experiencing that with OP’s article (hard not to when bad things happen to bad people), that isn’t the part that makes it uplifting.

It signals the possibility of a shift away from the hatred and bigotry that drives their political values. It’s not the optimal route of getting us there, but again, everything else has failed.

Everyone would find at least some deaths uplifting. Hitler is the obvious example. If you agree with that then we just have to gauge where you draw that line.

Can’t say people dying makes me feel uplifted, even if they’re doing harm.

I don’t want retribution or to see them hurt for the hurt theyre causing, I want a reality that isn’t so bleak. Where our idea of hope is the schadenfreude of people who drank the coolaid getting themselves killed.

I hope it helps the situation. But theres no joy for me in watching even more suffering come of the present dysfunction.

Especially since they have kids, and they vote for policy and affect people other than themselves with their ignorance.

They will most likely conclude libs plot to kill them. Might include doctors.

This data may make them even worse.

People who decide to deny medical science, condemn and harass doctors and nurses, and vote to deny care to others getting what they voted for? Less health? THAT’S uplifting.

          i do feel them.

my life is objectively hell because of them.

it would have been much more convenient if they would have decided to ignore medicine and die before voting.

          this isn’t an innocent group.

there’s a lot of blood and suffering in their hands.

I’m not sad when people who want me without rights die

These are the people literally voting to kill my people and wanting to hurt harm and kill me, so yes it is extremely uplifting that the evil forces are diminishing.

If it were Batman doing this we’d be cheering for him too
