Now we can get headlines saying Russian citizens are cut off from knowledge of life in the rest of the world, with the unspoken implication that the Russian government did it.
Finland never got denazified and it shows, i don’t even know if their concetration camps are taught about in their public education
If ruzzia did this it would be an act of war
i don’t even know if their concetration camps are taught about in their public education
they aren’t
You’re right and I just wanted to add on top: How can they teach about that? People might start asking questions, it’s bad enough to admit your ancestors did atrocities, but that’s not the only issue. People had homes and sometimes land also, what happened to the homes of the victims? What happened to the homes where not a single family member was left?
Part of hiding the history is shame, but it’s more sinister than that. There’s some awful stories I’ve heard since they started vandalizing memories down here in Baltics and re-opened wounds of the people. It’s really sad, because I was hoping we’d get past shit like my father’s side of the family calling us “Russian halflings” in a derogatory fashion, when I was growing up …
(which progressives have always been more or less a-ok with for some reason???)
They are not, nobody is even aware of them. The little there is has just come out in the mainstream in the past decade or so.
Incredible how the west now gives up completely on soft power. There are literal millions of Russian opposition begging for access to western internet (increasingly difficult in Russia mostly due to domestic policy), better alienate them from the NATO-dominated internet!
The modern ghoul of Western imperialism seems to be very poorly educated on average and so high on previous propaganda that they genuinely believe they are living in some epic black & white fantasy battle where their wholesome West is the obvious victor in all things, just because it’s ontologically “the right side” for them. Nothing is material, it’s all vibes and nothing matters except reaction.
I suppose this is not a bad thing, the ruling class sucking in its own class consciousness. It’s completely different to the fully self-aware seeming monsters like Kissinger.
Its incredible. It’ll just push the opposition into a more anti-West camp. That’s what we need.
The more NATO weakens itself, the better.
This will do it! Now Russian web traffic will be cut off completely! What are they going to do, connect through China? Ha! I laugh, only a moron would want to do something like that since it would result in
*checks notes* significantly lower ping and faster connections. Hmmm…
You’re just meme-ing, right? Or how did you come to that conclusion? Because neither BGP nor physics works like that. The ping would be significantly worse, even in the hypothetical case of RU-CN laying a huge direct fiber cable from Moscow to Chengdu. The only exception would be those in the Far East (which is most likely already choosing routes through China), as the overwhelming majority of Russia lives in the western side.
But it’s not even a cutoff, there’s still many different routes through Europe that will be chosen. That’s the beauty of the Internet, it will always get routed to its destination unless someone specifically blocks it :) And that’s also why so much traffic goes over those lines, as it’s the cheapest path; internet routing is behaving exactly as intended.
The ping would be much lower for communications with Asia, once again the most important continent for Russia. All European nations are achieving by severing ties and communications with Russia is self-isolation.
When you take your ball and go home, people stop caring about your game.
Why are you moving the goalposts? You said that latency would be less, if traffic leaving RUnet were to go via China instead of via Finland… which is an objectively false statement.
Even your new statement is illogical; traffic intended for Asia will already be routing in that direction instead of going into Europe first.
I implore you to read up more on how Internet routing works, as it’s actually very interesting stuff. And yes, as I said, this will have very little impact on Russians.
The stated reason is that it is no longer economical to maintain the physical infrastructure for only telecommunications. This is likely objectively true, and both the Finnish and Russian sides of the business agree on that. As I understand, the same lines were used pre-2022 for exporting electricity into Finland from Russia. However, that year, the electricity was cut off by the Russians in the lead-up to Finland’s NATO application.
The part that is left out is that the cessation of electricity exports was not so unilateral. Russia claims that Finland had stopped paying for electricity. If that is the case, then the likely reason for the stopped payments is the EU and US sanctions against Russia. So, the whole situation — both stopping electricity imports and stopping telecommunications traffic — is the unilateral decision of Finland, not Russia, considered as a whole. But you will not find this direct explanation from Yle or BBC or any western media.
Surely this will bring an end to the conflict!

Isn’t most of western surveillance based on monitoring Internet traffic?
This feels like they’re willingly letting go of a massive chunk of their intelligence capabilities. Not that I mind, of course.
retvrn to LAN parties
Yeah shutup and make more moomins its all you’re good for
Tower of Babel moment. Segregating the means of common language to prevent a united world.
