The Jolla Phone (2026) is intended to be open for community based alternative backplates. To my knowledge, I created the first, albeit a fairly simple, one. It achieves 3 things:

  • make the backplate 3d printable, using the same clip based mount of the stock backplate
  • protect the camera lenses better without an additional protective case
  • add a metal ring on the inside to make the backplate compatible with Magsafe accessories.

As a side effect of course, one can get any colours one can find FDM filament for.

I hope others will follow and that they will also make use for the pogo pin connection prepared for these "TOH"s. Maybe we’ll see for example a Qi charching TOH, or maybe even something with an e-ink display?

PS: If you want to have a look at it or print it yourself, the files are here: https://www.printables.com/model/1793098-jolla-phone-ctoh-m-clip-based-back-plate-with-magn

This will let me have my Jolla phone stick to my magsafe charger? If so then awesome! No need for actual charging, but due to the type of desk I’m using that’s actually one of the issues I’m having right now going from my previous iPhone to the Jolla :D

Yes, it should stick to it. Of course there is no charging because there is no charging coil. It is not entirely trivial to print as tolerances are fairly tight but it is not too complicated to print either.

I only tested it with the Cloudvalley Ring Holder but it should work just as well with other magsafe mounts.

Of course, the easier option is to take the metal ring and just apply them on your stock back plate, but then you have a metal ring attached to the outside that may or may not hold.
