I’m trying to think of the last big breasted horror icon that people took seriously, and I can only think of Lady Dimitrescu in Resident Evil.
But whether it’s Hollywood or video games, creators and the audience don’t seem to believe big breasted women are capable of being evil, angry, traumatized, lonely, regretful, guilty, or any of the other reasons to haunt the earth.
Every ghost and demon is either a petite woman, an old person, a child, or just a guy.
there’s a big titty ghost in Thir13en Ghosts (2001) but that’s definitely not a movie to take seriously
Hachishaku only came out last year, what more do you want?!

There’s actually a lot of very cool reading you could do about the ties between the feminine and the monsterous. A lot of folk lore and monsters draw from femininity corrupted (as determined by a dominant patriarchy, so usually stuff like women who are sexually aggressive, or women who are independent, or women who don’t want to be baby factories).
It may be the case that because large breasts are a “good” female trait, and serve the purpose of being motherly and sexually appealing for/to men they aren’t deemed threatening.
https://link.springer.com/chapter/10.1007/978-3-031-12844-8_1 this is something that turned up in a quick search and may be a good jumping off point
In Japan there is not the same associations historically, and that may be why there’s more evil women well endowed in e.g. animoo
tldr: the same fucking answer as always?
That’s a good point. Although children are also exploited and simultaneously considered pure and innocent, yet those traits are subverted in horror whereas large breasts are mostly ignored. And thanks for the link, I’ll take a look at that today
Caliban and The Witch may be a relevant read
Clearly we are not reading the same materials
This is Elvira erasure and I won’t stand for it
Elvira is also 74 years old so she’s well before the example in the OP
i thought she was a host not a character in the stories
yeah she’s more of a comedy character too.
Not mutually exclusive genres
I was referring to
I’m trying to think of the last big breasted horror icon
and I think she counts as “icon” even though she’s not really a horror character
You’re right, although I was thinking more of Exorcist, Possession, The Ring, etc.
Ursula in The Little Mermaid? Interesting question though.

How about the energy vampire from Lifeforce?
That’s also 40+ years old
I think it’s the breasted boobily thing, where irl anyone can have big ones but in fiction it’s a deliberate decision so the outcomes are much more skewed towards characters whose boobs are core character attributes. I think even when this is avoided it can create a kind of accidental Chekov’s Rack situation if youre not casual or intentional about it, where because nothing in a work of fiction is truly incidental, the unconscious tendency of the reader/watcher/player is to question what the author meant by this and whether it will be important at some point.
I think lady giantvampire is still a good character though, an aristocrat (so a human being already spiritually curdled by parisitism) further alienated by immortal predatory seclusion in a luxurious castle where it’s always a warm harvest autumn, the unliving embodiment of getting everything you want forever and becoming increasingly mercurial and untethered. A little pocket eternity of feudal excess and sensuality fueled by endless blood and winter outside. And the boobs are part of that motif but there’s more to it, you know?
chekov’s rack lmao, great way of putting it. Now that you mention it, all the big breasted women in media tend to be love interests or fanservice/eye candy for the audience (with lingering male gaze, etc). You don’t really ever just see it as an incidental attribute that happens to coexist with a complex antagonist or protagonist that is not lingered on or remarked upon, it’s always core to their “purpose” in the media
Chika from Kaguya-sama Love is War, is the exception I thought of immediately. She has big tits and other characters (rarely) comment on it but it’s not something that is important to her character, she’s not a love interest or intended to be particularly “sexy” and she’s got plenty of other stuff going on

accidental Chekhov’s Rack situation
certified bra moment

Harpies and Mermaids(evil) ? Or are these too normal-sized and what you mean is like, BIGGGGG BAZONGAS ?
I’m thinking like Kat Dennings or Christina Hendricks
Also succubi, although as we’re less concerned with souls these days they tend to be more temptationy than “lol rip your soul and cum. Gonna make a demon baby changling thing now mwahaha”
Harpies are usually drawn kinda flat
Dragon’s Dogma 2 was in my head:

It’s anti big breast discrimination.

When you die, your bazongas turn into spiritual floatation devices and carry you aloft to heaven
It’s actually the only way to get in, little known metaphysical fact
…ah, shit
Don’t worry, you just have to spring for some deathbed DDs
How big do the boobs have to be?
Species. Beowulf.
How good you are is tied to your cup size that’s why Sydney Sweeney was canonized in the church.
Big titty jesus
I can’t recall a single one, but if it’s any consolation, one of my OCs is a small demoness with big boobs. I’m taking steps to change the clichés
Thank you for your service
This bait?
What’s the last horror icon you saw who had a massive hog?
Lol most people with big hogs don’t dick around penisly so no one knows what they’re packing. But it’s pretty clear when a person has big boobs or small boobs so it’s odd that horror media omits an entire demographic
Have you seen “Tromeo and Juliet”?
does bowie in labrynth count?
generally the hog is hidden by clothing while breasts are discernable through clothing so i don’t think the comparison is very worthwhile
I think it’s very comparable when the person we’re using as a Metric is someone who looks like they have breast hypertrophy. The reality is there’s plenty of big breasted vaillains in games and I’m sure even horror villains. They aren’t built like Hitomi Tanaka tho.
Nosferatu

This is why body horror is great.
