Technology@piefed.social•After more than two decades, the creator of Paint.NET finally owns the domain paint.net, and it's all thanks to a 'slam dunk case of trademark infringement'English
5·16 days agoI think this was in the late 2000s even the .NET naming style was in vogue from memory.
I would imagine there are other roadblocks for a “quick and dirty” port to Linux like the plugin system (I’ve used it occasionally when I needed a feature not provided by the core app).
On one hand, one would think it would be somewhat realistic to make a clone application (relative to more advanced image editors), but then again I think one strengths of Paint.net is usability/UI/UX. It’s one of the few applications I’ve set up family members with (they need something beyond Paint, but nowhere near the massive bloat of PS) that required no initial intro or on-going support.
They’ve been able to borderline break our open source eReader for Android, while not using any of the advanced features or messing much with options.

21·16 days agoI’ve been using Paint.net for 15+ years, was actually using Photoshop around that time too. PS was overkill and the UI was fucking busy considering my use cases (some basic image editing but with baseline layer support).

Hardware@lemmy.world•Chinese GPU maker, [Lisuan Tech], sells out over 30,000 gaming GPUs within 48 hours despite lukewarm benchmarks — LX 7G100 proves hype trumps performanceEnglish
21·19 days agoThis is a gross simplification and it sounds like demagoguery to me.
There are many well structured/thought out reasons why you would view US governance (in the general sense) in a more positive light than the CCP and this is true even if you are not American and aren’t subject to their locks propaganda.
Framing everyone who holds that view as being ignorant or provincial really undermines your arguement.
But what really gives you away is framing US involvement in Korea as an invasion of North Korea in the same vein as the invasion of Iraq.

86·20 days agoMe too, but not from China. The CCP and its goons make the US oligarchy look like a reasonable choice.
Although the US oligarchs and the segment of the US population that genuinely supports crime and corruption are doing their best to change this.

2·1 month agoShould a program like that be initiated, they will admit that they are edgelords / demagogues and they don’t actually believe in any of this (the NK stuff in particular is strong evidence that this is all online roleplay).

62·1 month agoA democratic society? Since when does a democratic society have a leader for life and organises mass killings and torture of citizens?
Iran is aiding russia in its genocidal imperialist invasion of Ukraine, or does that not count?
Is this a satirical comedy account? A parody of “Lemmy leftists”?

Technology@lemmy.world•Software developer Rave files antitrust lawsuit alleging that Apple removed Rave's app off App Store after introducing a competing product called SharePlayEnglish
61·1 month agoI am referring to the use and marketing of Grok for making nude deepfakes and CSAM.
Further in this thread you claim that people are allegedly detached from reality. The reality of the matter is that Apple’s app store policy is not consistent and there are special rules for certain entities.
Surely CSAM generation and involuntary nude deepfakes are a bigger deal than piracy, I think an average person on the street (in any country, doesn’t have to be the US) would agree with me.
I also don’t see where judges come into play? Has Rave been sued in court?

282·1 month agoProps for trying a new approach, good luck!
That being said, I hope you continue to engage with the community at least on the development side.
The “leftists” (emphasis on the quotes) on Threadi are full of shit. They are mostly edgelords or demagogues who don’t have any beliefs, it’s an online roleplay/aesthetic thing for them.
I am not just talking about personal conflicts. I am from Ukraine and its ironic to see alleged leftists support the genocidal imperialist policies of an authoritarian plutocracy (this isn’t limited to tankies, DB0 enables such narratives as well) using comical “but BATO expansion!!!” type arguements.

4·1 month ago2016 was a pretty good year by PC component standards, just before crypto got big, and then the COVID spike and AI now fueled priced increases.
We also got the 1080 in 2016 which I would argue is probably one of the best high end GPU products from both an absolute performance and price to performance ratio.

8·1 month agoIt’s funny how much Rose is focused on chasing trends and how little interest he has in innovation. He gave up on Digg very quickly, which makes sense from a business and product development perspective, but also provides signals for potential users.
Just like TC article mentions, how is this any different from just using in-built Twitter functionality or just subscribing to a link-based forum on the topic of AI?

Are we supposed to bring back the whole history every time Rimu comments anywhere?
- an anarchist.nexus admin calls for murder of Zionists in their username
- a LW admin and Rimu gets qualified as Zionists in dbzer0 community modlogs
- LW defederates anarchist.nexus
- Rimu bans that admin
- that anarchist.nexus admin changes their username and steps down as admin
- LW refederates anarchist.nexus
- Rimu asks the dbzer0 staff to act on the modlog calling him a Zionist, no action is taken, the dbzer0 staff advices him to ignore that
- Rimu discovers that a dbzer0 mod has been using a LLM for moderation. That mod has been somehow pretending to use OpenAI to upset the !fuckai crowd, actually it was a local freeware model. He posts about it.
- a dbzer0 admin reverts the ban calling Rimu a Zionist after I asked
- Rimu is still upset, doesn’t take the previous action into account and keeps the post about LLM moderation up
- You bring it up here
Really goes to show how “leftists” on the Threadiverse are committed to acting in good faith.

This sounds like you are fishing for sympathy. Do you have anything to back up the claim about opposition to a pro-trans stance?
