I’ll be interested to see what it ends up looking like for real. How big is it? Does it have a home button or other fingerprint sensor? What will the cameras bump like like? Will it have a notch or punch out. If it has a notch, will it still support island-style notifications? Etc etc.

The ‌iPhone SE‌ 4 is expected to have an iPhone 14-style design, with Apple eliminating the thick bezels and Touch ID Home button of the current ‌iPhone SE‌. When the ‌iPhone SE‌ 4 launches, it will mark the end of ‌Touch ID‌ in the ‌iPhone‌ lineup.

If it starts at $499 or less and the specs are somewhere in the ballpark of what the rumors say then the iPhone 16 has very little reason to exist: same A18 SoC and 8 GB RAM, storage probably starts at the same 128 GB, OLED, same main camera, Face ID. So $300 more gets you an ultra-wide lens and a different display cutout (if even that)? Am I missing something?

Also, the upsell to the 16 Pro is suddenly quite steep.

This would/could be the best value iPhone since the original SE (2016).

Yeah but it will look old. That really shouldn’t matter, but apparently buyers really value a phone which looks new. So there’s the upsell. It’s dumb but that’s the reality of the market

frankly the shiny thing desire of new iphones has worn off on most people in my impression. most people i know buying an iphone end up choosing a 14 or 15, and those who don’t are usually taking advantage of carrier offers. an iphone 12 is pretty much indistinguishable from a 15 for most people, and considering that 16 sales were lower than expected, it doesn’t look this those changes to the look are really driving sales either. the 400ish dollar difference between a 16 and an se is going to be a pretty hard sell for most,if the rumors of its specs are true. even considering the downgraded camera (this will probably be the only real reason people choose the higher end model)
