Tibet was still a serfdom in 1950. There’s some debate about whether or not the 90+% of Tibetans who lived as serfs count as slaves or not (personally, I think serfdom is slavery), but there’s no questioning that Tibet was cruel to the indentured. Your average Tibetan is inarguably more free now than they were before the revolution
@Fibby@lemm.ee please be aware that while this essay is good as fuck there are several references to some pretty heinous shit so go into it with that in mind
Before China’s intervention, Tibet was ruled by a theocratic regime with a rigid caste system with “untouchables,” feudal serfdom, extreme poverty, and human rights abuses. The average life expectancy before China was about 35. And at most it was only ever a de facto state that emerged during the chaos of early 20th century China (along with a host of warlord states), and was never recognized internationally.
The problem with “Free Tibet” is that China already did.
Whats wrong with “free tibet”?
Edit: thanks all for the answers

“Well it was about that time that I noticed that McCainRGBcreampie was about 8 stories tall and a crustacean from the protozoic era”
If Tibetans were being oppressed, they would logically be fleeing from TAR (Tibet Autonomous Region).
Instead, Tibetan diaspora from India are returning to TAR which indicates that the opposite is true.
This is what is wrong with “free Tibet”
It’s a 20 min ish read, well worth it.
