a life with no social media and phone, having more DIY, Punk, hacking style and stuff, how is that possible in current years? my ideas are having so low or no use of social media, using Linux or BSDS, having a custom rom at phone (or dumphone) and using alternative sites like image boards, IRC, old/niche forums, going to punk gigs and raves, learn music instrument, learn about cybersec, download music and movies, piracy in general, dress alt, make a personal webpage, using less javascript and using alternative’s to crapitalism.

You’re gonna have to be more specific if you want specific ideas because all of those things are attainable and most of them are downright straightforward, you just have to do them.

What specifically is stopping you? Are you worried you won’t be able to communicate with your friends? Can you not find punk shows in your area? What is it?

You can 100% get by without a smartphone, and probably without a phone at all though that’s harder. just be prepared to have to think and learn a little bit.

Getting to/from unfamiliar places is probably the hardest part for a lot of people. My recommendation on that is just to practice a few strategies. Look up directions before you go and commit them to memory, write them down if you have to, and then just go, don’t use GPS navigation even if you still have the smartphone. With some practice you’ll likely develop a mental map of the places you frequent pretty quickly, and eventually will probably be able to get to most places in your city/town just from the address unless its horribly suburban, and easily with a quick look at a map on your linux computer before you go. The other strategies are: when you’re going somewhere unfamiliar, you might want to try a paper map. or some sort of offline map if you have a device that can display it. (if you have a laptop you can always stop somewhere and use the internet). The trusty fallback option is just ask random strangers for directions though.

Honestly in this alienated society, just talking to strangers in public, being present in the moment, and generally being inter-reliant on other humans, shit like hitchhiking, asking for directions, helping people out, is one of the most punk things you can do.

I tend to agree with the lemmygrad poster saying it sounds like you just want to live an aesthetic, but also is there anything wrong with that? just be genuine about it, don’t be a poser, but also don’t be afraid to do what you want to do even if its weird to others.

The “alternatives to crapitalism” part I don’t have too much to say to, but you can’t just individually opt out, it’s been tried, the hippies came back and created silicon valley so see how that worked out. You can be a crustpunk type, or homeless I guess but you’re still not opting out of capitalism, you’d just be choosing to live at the bottom of society rather than wherever you are now. If you genuinely want to see the end of capitalism, seek out communist or anarchist groups doing principled mutual aid work in your area and join them, you’ll eventually get to know like minded people and can work out a plan of action from there. You won’t end capitalism on your own but you can at least work in the right direction.
