    https://www.wired.com/story/how-to-get-around-the-us-tiktok-ban/

The company said in the days before the law took effect that it planned to make the app inaccessible to US users—a level of cooperation and accommodation that the outgoing Biden White House called a “stunt” on Saturday afternoon. Even if TikTok itself had obligations under the law, the Biden White House had signaled that it did not plan to enforce the ban before Trump took office on Monday.

    lmao

    also, VPNs won’t wok either

How is it a stunt when the law Biden signed is literally

As of January 19, the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act will make it unlawful for companies in the United States to provide services to distribute, maintain, or update the social media platform TikTok

      powell-propaganda

like what did he think would happen on his last day in office when you’re banning a treat?

the law was enacted but not enforced yet, but they decided to enforce it upon themselves, before they legally had to. last week biden said he’d leave the fate of the enforcement in trump’s hands, in an attempt to save face i guess

stroking trump’s savior complex like this will probably double the chances of him actually following through tbh. smart move from tiktok

But “enforced” means what, international arrest warrants and sanctions against bytedance employees? Corporate fines? I honestly don’t know, but we generally don’t describe people following murder law as “enforcing a self-ban on killing people.”

yeah but the white house basically told them they don’t have to block it right away and there would be 0 consequences

we generally don’t describe people following murder law as “enforcing a self-ban on killing people.”

if murder law was enacted without any enforcement or penalty then that descriptor wouldn’t be too far off
