Seems aligned with the core values of this community that we should join the currently discussed movement to ban links to Twitter/X, including screenshots, on c/Antiwork

That platform’s owner (through purchase) essentially started the more recent wave of unprecedented layoffs in tech giving cover to others that quickly followed along blaming interest rates, but likely just seeing that investors were excited about it and using the cover. He failed to pay promised severance packages to former employees, publicly attacked them, provides notoriously poor and measurably dangerous work environments and is just generally hostile to labor. More than most communities, feels we have a strong mandate to have some clarity in our rejection of these actions, and this small movement has built around sending this message.

While there has been much discussion in recent days about the platform and actions of the person that bought and is in the process of fundamentally changing it (not to say it was perfect prior, but objectively declining since purchase), the platform has been a general point of contention online for a long time and for many reasons. Misinformation and hate speech are more prevalent than ever on that platform.

If no objections to discuss, we would establish the policy with a new community rule in the sidebar and of course, we can always evaluate positions like this in the future, should any meaningful change(s) occur.

Some are also banning the use of links/screens of Meta owned properties as well, something we can consider and discuss here. I’ll leave this thread pinned for about a week. Please share your thoughts if you have them and then a decision, and potential changes, will be made.

Ban links but allow screenshots. Sometimes there is a decent reason to show something from there. But it shouldn’t give them traffic.

I like the avatar, just add the hammer and sickle to it.

I do not want to stoop down to the same shitty low level the fascists and communists use to control the media by censoring, banning and shutting down outlets. The obvious dangers are valid, but I would choose to allow the asswipes to continue and monitor their online activities. Like Sun Tzu said, it is always smart to keep your worst enemy close to you. I hope X falls on it’s own sword and files for bankruptcy.

Blocking meta and Twitter links seems like a no brainer to me. If anyone wants that vile content they can use a search engine. I think screenshots are fine personally.

Fully support any actions we can take that reduces traffic and / or revenue to X.

I am not even able to see content behind twitter link without owning an account, so they are usueless anyway.

We should probably still allow links to archives/alternative front ends because screenshots of content can be forged. But yeah we should not give those sites more traffic and only link to archives/alternative front ends if necessary.

No. A Nazi site is not an appropriate news source. If a journalist only posts their news on Twitter, nobody should read their news and their story should fail to get out. Journalists should be forced by business pressures to post information on sites other than Twitter. We control the business pressures.

Absolutely this - they’ve been fighting a war for years now and we’ve barely returned fire yet.

While I agree, it may not be about posting “news”. There is an argument to be made for keeping records of bad behavior so they aren’t forgotten or whitewashed later.

It’d be nice if archives/front-ends were the default for everything. Redlib, Invidious, etc.

Politics and World bans all social media (Xitter, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, etc.) from top level posts, but it would be damned hard to police it in comments.

You’d either have to read all the comments yourself or rely on user reports.

Or add an automod type bot to remove any posts containing those urls. Pretty simple imo.

Enforcing against screenshots would be difficult, especially if screenshots of Bluesky/Mastodon are allowed but X/Threads isn’t.

    Yeah, screenshots would be fine.

For two years, I’ve never willingly followed a link to any of those places so it would be convenient for me.

Ban links and screenshots to/of both Twitter and Meta platforms. I’m completely on board
