The way that Markdown number lists work (on Lemmy) is that they take the first number in the list and then count up from there regardless of what you actually type for the subsequent numbers. Your options are either putting the list in ascending order or doing away with numbered list formatting entirely by escaping the periods like so:

      12\. Doofus 12
      11\. Doofus 11

and so on, which looks like this:

      12. Doofus 12
      11. Doofus 11

Note that you’ll need to add two spaces to the end of each line to get line breaks if you take this approach (you can copy from my comment’s source below by clicking the little page icon under my comment)

      spoiler

      12. Tim Walz
      11. Josh Stein
      10. Andy Beshear
      9. Gavin Newsom
      8. Raphael Warnock
      7. Wes Moore
      6. Ruben Gallego
      5. John Fetterman (lmao)
      4. jokermala
      3. pete-eat
      2. Gretchen Whitmer

      A broken example of 3, 2, 1 vvv

Use “\” to stop automatic formatting.

      Fixed vvv

      3. blah blah
      2. blah blah
      1. blah blah

      In code vvv

      3\. blah blah
      2\. blah blah
      1\. blah blah

Important - end each line with two spaces or you’ll get this vvv

      3. blah blah 2. blah blah 1. blah blah
