I want the x-files to be real so bad it hurts. I once tried to get a Monster of the Week campaign going under the premise of “x-files, but it’s in Stalin’s KGB”. Didn’t go anywhere because I don’t have enough nerdy friends :(
I appreciate it! I thought it was a winner. Cards on the table, I need to level up my knowledge of the USSR before I could play with someone from Hexbear. My knowledge there is somewhere between pop history and [anti-authoritarian Westy] history fan. So, the setting was very much going to be in the vein of 80’s movie USSR*. I wouldn’t ask my players to have the patience to educate my dumb ass through being their MC.
*I mean, I didn’t want to yap about my influences, but I realize how this reads. I wasn’t going to paint the people in the USSR in a negative light. It’s more like… Well, remember how often the FBI/USG would get in Mulder and Scully’s way? Kinda like that, but with a 80’s movie USSR flavor instead of US Govt “it’s classified because defense contractors paid us off” vibes.
