I work with China. They need our business. One of my suppliers said they are 75% export.

China has the entire developing world, their own growing middle class, and europe for import/export. There is nothing america produces that is exclusive or the best cost, and with the us economy dying it’s not like china can sell to the us profitably for a while.

Exhaust parts. They are migrating to EV. We aren’t. My suppliers are panicking. At the same time the cost of labor and material is so low that now I’m moving Mexico parts to China. It’s still too costly here.

…you understand how tiny of an industry that is compared to nearly anything else china exports, right?

And the entire world is going towards evs, even developing countries since generators are more efficient over time than dealing with all the parts of a ice vehicle.

Some businesses might go under if they somehow can’t pivot their floors to produce something more profitable, but the entire ‘problem’ western firms have when competing with china is that they’re set up to easily pivot and expand production to different items.

I do understand and I’m not sure it will be around long enough for me to retire. Especially with SS probably being dismantled.

I don’t think you understand what China is doing. They are using the softpower tactic to get countries to drown in debt to China. They then legally seize everything not nailed down and hollow out these countries walking away with resources and all the money

THAT is the Belt and Road initiative.

No one is gonna start producing cheap shitty knick-knacks in the US. The will continue to be maid in China, only now they will be twice as expensive

So then you were probably already buying steel from US steel or Cleveland cliffs. Most automotive ateel in the US is purchased from those two firms

Correct. And in the last few weeks even with this tarriff announcement and you think business would be better, CC is shutting down plants and IIRC they are losing money. So I’m betting there’s a price increase. All metal suppliers started increasing their prices last month after the announcement to boot.
