Be dumb not to. Much as I’m not a Perez fan, he’s head and shoulders above the rest of the free agent options and has experience.
Calling it here first, they’re going to pull in someone from Indycar as the second.
Then again, KMag in a competitive car could be pretty fun, too. But he certainly doesn’t have the sponsorship ties that Perez does.
The car will not be competitive at the jump, it will take time for them to learn
They would put Sargent in before KMag
The only American Indycar driver that’s practicable is Herta, the other possibilities are O’Ward (MEX) and Palou (SPA).
Zero experience with 2026 however (per the whole grid), and demonstrably struggled with the current regs over time. I wouldn’t say it’s a no brainer with the amount of talent generally sloshing around.
Agree on Indy drivers, admittedly the only other candidate I can think of would be Jam Crawford who seems solid not amazing
I’m happy to chalk up Perez struggling to Red Bull struggling with the new regs. Max has been vocal about the car being nearly undrivable, and Marko’s statements concur. Understeer at low speed and oversteer at high speed.
