Hello /c/traaaaaaannnnnnnnnns, I hope this is the right place for this kind of post. I’m apart of a leftist LGBTQ discord and recently become acquainted with a young trans woman going through hard times right now. From what I’ve read and what she’s told me, a lot of their LGBTQ activism funding was tied to USAID, and with gone she is feeling very isolated.
I made this account to try and find any resources or organizations or experience with LGBTQ rights in the Balkans, so please do DM me if you have any advice or kind words I can pass along. Thanks very much, big love to my trans comrades
I can look into it, I will say I am very slammed lately though with work. I can read most slavic languages, im czech. Is there something specific shes looking for? Just a place to talk / hang out?
Sorry about work, I definitely feel you. The activist groups that she was in contact with have mostly disbanded so I think so, she’s looking for some kind of guidance. She mostly stays on reddit and she wasn’t receptive to making an account here. Thank you Kristina, I greatly appreciate it.
The fact they disbanded after USAID shut down seems so sus, like they didnt even keep open a free group chat or anything? Shes looking for an activist org to join, or is she looking for friends?
It seems that way, she was helping organize the Transgender Visibility march with Transforma and it was shuttered this year due to funding. The Skopje Queer Center told her that due to funding cuts that they were no longer able to offer the services she was using.
What she sent me this morning was: “If possible, ask her if she knows any trans people from here, or groups of trans people, or perhaps small unknown political groups of queer people, nowadays we are no longer able to rely on the organizations and have to rely on ourselves, but if we fail to organize and make friends then we’re all pretty much alone. :(”
