I have some free time coming up and I’d like to get into star trek but I have no idea where to start there’s too many series and movies. Anyone got a good guide for all this please?

The TNG-era movies are, imo, skippable unless you just want to see more of those characters. If you wanted to pick one, First Contact is great. Generations is a tough watch. Insurrection and Nemesis are alright if you like the franchise.

I fully agree on the skipability.

Speaking as a “still thinks TNG is the best” trekkie, I honestly don’t consider the TNG movies as canon. There’s so many out-of-the-blue changes to established characters that got worse with each new movie. For example Picard’s random angry outbursts in First Contact are completely at odds with how he was consistently depicted in post-BOBW Borg episodes in the original TV series. In those, he was definitely seething with justified anger, but it was a cold calm anger, the anger of a patient man. It wasn’t “beating drones over the head with the butt of a phaser rifle while screaming” anger.

Generations has insane tonal shifts at the drop of a hat. First Contact is the least bad of the quartet but that’s a very low bar. Insurrection was forgettable. And Nemesis was just plain stupid.

They’re basically anime OVAs, in that they might technically be “canon” but they don’t really fit into the rest of the series or universe.
