Very disturbing that this instance vanished spontaneously, like so many small instances do. We don’t even have read access to the content.

The rumor is they are looking to come back as a platform I had not heard of (piefed). Unclear why that could not be explored in parallel to running slrpnk.net.

Update

More answers in this clip:

slrpnk down to mid-July, due to hardware failure

(I ripped that pic off of programming.dev, a centralised Cloudflare site that I would never send ppl in the free world to, hence why it is a copy).

Not for good, just for now. It’s my home instance, so I’ve been following developments. Lemmy vs Piefed isn’t a big deal, my alt is on piefed and it works about the same for the end-user. It still federates like Lemmy does, the major differences are in the backend.

The admins did a post about it here https://lemmy.world/post/30798447

Great to hear an update, even if it takes longer than that it is ok what matters is people know they are or aren’t coming back.

Alt of Prodigalfrog@slrpnk.net here (slrpnk admin). As mentioned in the link Faythofdragons provided, the server unexpectantly went down when poVoq went on a work trip, and the failure was unfortunately in a way that requires physical access to fix.

We’re using this opportunity to consider a migration to piefed, but if that does not work out, we’ll simply continue to run the Lemmy instance. Either way, we will be back! :D

You can follow the progress of the piefed migration here: https://feddit.org/post/13823532
