Hello all

A thing that interest me Christianity is not only the Biblical and religious aspects but the historical accepts. The art created about these figures, the centuries old bibles found hidden away for who knows how long, the grand buildings and the years it took and the people behind them.

hochelaga Is a good YouTuber for this sorta thing but what else is good to read/ watch for these topics?

Bart Ehrman. He’s written about a truckload of books. He’s very mainstream, in terms of historians. You can see some of his debates on YouTube before putting down money on any of his books.

Most of the stuff I’ve gotten from YT was recommended to me after watching videos of something else. It started with Esoterica and I searched Epic of Gilgamesh, and then I’m interested in various other religions and mythology, so it’s been a “long and winding road.” When I was a kid, Pilgrims Progress, Paradise Lost et al, Foxe’s Book of Martyrs (largely discredited, I believe, it was required by an “educational” institution). I stopped visiting some channels when they expressed views I can’t abide with.

Useful Charts has some solid content. From what I’ve seen it’s well-researched, but like anything on YouTube from a random person you should verify important facts you care about. He’s good about correcting (almost always very minor) errors in follow-up videos, but the fact that he had to occasionally do those talks you something.

He’s interesting to me because personally he has a Christian background but converted to Judaism, but he also does well-researched educational material as his day job, so he presents info well.
