      valid read. I also see it as more like “this wasn’t a complete slam dunk guaranteed win if we go to court so let’s just settle and move on”. Large corporations like Disney don’t do anything for any reason other than money. In this case, canceling her contract seemed like the plan that would lose the least amount of money, and then once she sued and had Elon Musk behind her, settling became the new path to lose the least amount of money. It’s cynical, but not exactly “kissing the ring”. But really who knows, maybe the current political climate influenced the decision to settle.

        Disney has some of the best lawyers in existence, smart money is on the ring and not legal liability. but yeah you could read it that way.

          totally, i’m with you. I guess you can view the decision to terminate her contract as similar - at the time, the winds seemed to be blowing towards more social justice, so Disney viewed social justice as the ring that needed kissing. 2025 things look a lot more bleak.

            Well at the time they only had to worry about the plebians disliking them. Now they have to worried about the government fucking wrecking them.
