The creature that Spock sees during his mind meld with Batel in episode 3 isn’t a Gorn. It’s the same type of creature, a Vezda, that he sees when he looks into the well in episode 5. I’ve got screenshots of both scenes below for easy comparison. I haven’t quite decided what this is setting up, but it could go a few directions!
Screenshots
I was wondering if they were the “Species of good fortune” from voyager.
Were they able to possess people? I can’t remember if they had that capability, although of course it could be something else they’ve developed in the meantime. I did think about some similarities to the Pah-Wraiths too. They were also non-corporeal beings that were sometimes kept trapped in a container, and entered their puppets as a bolt of orange light too.
They may also just be a completely new species too, which is fine with me! I feel like the modern Trek shows sometimes go a little too far trying to link every little thing to some other show.
Spoiler
I thought the creature we saw in the well was a gorn too, or an offshoot. Vulcan/Romulan Gorn/Vezda
That could be, I wasn’t thinking of an offshoot!
With knowing how the SNW writers like to make things line up with TOS, one of my theories was that the Vezda were parasites that had taken control of a group of Gorn, which makes them much more active and violent. Once rid of their influence, the Gorn go back to being the sluggish creature we see in TOS.
Who knows what they’ve got cooked up though!
