If you don’t care about your leader being a pedophile, you are a pedophile.
Think of the most morally upright person you know. Think of everything that makes them morally upright.
Now imagine a neighbor’s child or wife telling you in a shaky voice, maybe with tears running down their face this morally upright person touched them in private areas.
What thoughts go through your mind? Do you automatically grant suspended belief or belief? You confront the morally upright person. They recoil in horror and deny the accusations. Do you report to police or CPS?
Yes there are a lot of morally reprehensible people who place themselves in positions with access to vulnerable people. Probably more than that who are gullible. There are a lot of assault apologists. And there are good people who just want to help people.
Imagine you go to police or CPS.An investigation is opened. Media outlets find out and run the story. The accused is stressed and charged. Then fired from their job. Later charges are dropped for lack of credible evidence. Maybe they’re guilty, maybe they aren’t. Do you stay friends with the accused who is now homeless and jobless, can’t get a job because of being in the news? Maybe they can’t hire a lawyer to get a retraction in the media or an expungement from state records.
Now imagine you are browsing sexual offender records and fund a trusted friend is listed. You look up the charges. They urinated in a secluded area and some off chance bypasser was wearing smart glasses and presented a picture of the back beside their year, make and model of their car. Do you shun your friend?
I’m not talking about rich and famous self-admitting offenders. And you need not answer here. This is simply a thought experiment.
Except Trump has never been morally upright? He’s been a scammer, he is a convicted rapist felon, he tried a coup, he is racist, homophobe and hates poor people. And these are facts, not just something someone tells you. There is proof of all of this.
If you think that he is morally upright, your moral is rotten as much as he is.
Oh, and for the record, if a friend of mine was found in all the shit Trump has been found WITH PROOF, I’d reject them and would be the first to report them to the authorities, because my morals and principles matter and I live by them.

Also, how would a child present proof? Maybe they kept silent for weeks, months, years. Or maybe they are a clever, wicked child who was told “no,” and made allegations.

And the amount of mental gymnastics you are doing to not address this is astounding.
It’s not. Maybe single issue voters do the mental gymnastics addressed in the articles. Being told to never question authority all one’s life is the issue.
The thought experiment I presented you was from a CE course for those who work with vulnerable populations.

It’s because those evangelicals worship power, not God. They failed to heed the warnings against idolatry.

gamefame, or simple external validation, depending on how big the congregation is. We’d do well to learn how to self-soothe, self-validate, self-regulate. It’s a day-to-day exercise, often moment-by-moment.
Uh, I’d bet the mortgage that no fewer than half of them would openly celebrate trump raping children.
That brings up another issue. A lot of people gaslight themselves about what happened to themselves and others, either because they’re so conditioned to not question authority, being told that’s just the way it is, and being put on trial in the court of public opinion (what were they wearing?), or simply understanding the odds are ever not in their favor. So they actually learn how to deny and deflect their own and others’ experiences, and protect abusers. Some may even have such deeply
depressedrepressed memories simply because the experience was so traumatic.
