Cleaned up a shady part of the garden.

I planted the white hydrangea shrub (before photos was in a container) behind a hydrangea that isn’t bud hearty. Maybe one year I will protect it properly.

I also planted one of the two hostas shown. The darker hosta went in the front yard. There is another, larger hosta behind the bees balm, which was transplanted earlier in the year and hasn’t quite taken off yet.

I also pruned the rose and cleaned up next to the columbine, geranium and forget-me-nots.

The vine is a giant pain in the ass but it’s got a pretty big ecosystem just chilling in there so I just trimmed it away from this side. Maybe I’ll remove it when things go dormant.

It’s been so, so dry. I watered these in good and used our own compost on the hydrangea. Fingers crossed!

Is it weird to like both versions equally? I love the look of nature taking over in the before pic, and the neat and tidy look from the after pic too! Such a great space to get to experience through the digital world, thanks so much for posting and explaining. You should be proud of the beautiful space you’ve created!

Not silly at all! For things without a taproot or crazy rhizomes (some grasses) I pull by hand. For taproots I’ve got this great stand up weeding tool that helps extract the whole root. I use them on the grasses too because they help loosen things up.

I always wear gloves and long sleeves while weeding because I don’t know all of the potential risks from the local plants.
