Hey there,
I’m new to summit so please excuss me if this is an user error on my end…
The behavior I experience: Nsfw posts with images get displayed in the feeds, but for redgif posts I need to first open the post, then I see a warning about NSFW material, when I tab on that then the app shows me the video.
When I turn on NSFW mode the videos are still now displayed in the feed, but when I tab on a redgif post it at least shows the video immediately without me having to dismiss a NSFW warning.
This would be an okay solution for me, although the behavior still looks like a bug? But NSFW mode turns itself off every time I reopen the app, probably because the mode is intended to be a temporary override…
I’ve searched the settings for NSFW but all settings seem to be in order, otherwise the NSFW images shouldn’t show up in my feeds, no? NSFW filter is off, NSFW blurring is off, videos are on autoplay.
Any help would be highly appreciated. Besides this issue the app has been rock solid and highly performant in my testing so far, would love to make it my daily driver. :)
This is an edge case. I assume you are using one of the Card layouts.
RedGif posts are considered “video posts” by Lemmy however they are a bit more complex to process by the app. The app is configured to not generate thumbnails for them and Lemmy doesn’t generate thumbnails for them either.
Card layouts are designed to showcase graphics (images/gifs). When content doesn’t have a thumbnail it defaults to not showing anything. This is why you have to tap into them to see the video.
The easiest solution is to use a different layout. You can try the full layout, compact layout or list layout or any of the equivalent card layouts. Summit allows you to set a specific layout for a community so if you’d like you can use card layout for your regular feed and only use the other layout for your RedGif feed(s).
As for getting rid of the NSFW warning, there are several ways to accomplish this. The easiest is just turning them off entirely in Settings > Post feed > Blue NSFW posts. You can also turn on “Do not blue NSFW posts within a NSFW community”. This is a good middle ground where NSFW content is shown only when you are in a NSFW feed.
Thanks for the insightful response!
Switching to a different layout was the solution for the redgif vids not showing in the feed. Thanks a lot!
Regarding the confirmation before seeing the redgif videos: this really seems like a bug to me. I have “Blur NSFW” turned off, I have the NSFW filter option off, NSFW posts are showing up in my feeds. Including redgif videos now, they start autoplaying. But when I open the same redgif post that was autoplaying in the feed in the single post view it asks me to confirm before showing the video. Like I said, the only way that I found to change that behavior is the turn on NSFW mode.
Cool I was able to reproduce the issue. I’ll fix the issue in the next release.
Thanks, you’re awesome! ❤️
Hmm that is odd. I can’t reproduce this issue on my end. This might be some specific combination of settings that is causing the issue.
Could you DM me your settings? You can copy your settings by doing to Settings > Import & export settings > Export settings. Then uncheck Include database and tap Copy to clipboard.
Hi, why does redgifs site work on my lemmy account but not on my piefed account? When logged in to piefed the gifs do not embed, and since I Iive in a nanny state I get prompted by the redgifs blocked in your state thing.
