So, being born on 1st January 1970 won’t work anymore?
What if I’ve had my steam account for more than 18 years?OSA is a pile of shit
youd think paying with your card is verification enough
It is, per the article
Amateur.
1-Jan-69 was right there.
1st of Jan 1970 is the Unix Epoch, ie 0 seconds.
So, yeh… The funny sex number joke is there, but doesn’t work as a standalone joke. So, has to be 1st Jan 1970
Huh? Why didn’t they do this for German users? German law requires age verification for adult content, and valve didn’t want to implement a system…
Here it’s apparently done just through a credit card. Does this meet the standards for the German law, I never really looked this stuff up. Dunno if that’s enough for the verification or if there are maybe some stipulations, especially with regard to the GDPR.
It would be great if Valve did something for German users though, so I finally gift my friends shitty porn games again.

it seems not. Providing anonymous verification data like Credit card information or even just the id number of the personal identification card is not enough, the provider has to verify the actual identity of the person. I guess that’s quite a bigger hurdle to overcome, so probably fair for valve to not bother.
My only guess is that there wasn’t much outcry for Valve to do it for Germany compare the UK’s Online Safety Act
Seems to be not so bad for those with a credit card at least. They have my payment info already. So just adding another form isn’t terrible.
Also the text says mature sexual content. So seems like it’s specifically the porn games I guess.
