Does anyone have a good device to replace the maps app on my phone? I know there are gps devices, but a lot of them seem hiking focused. are they good for daily navigation by car, bike, and walking?

At least for cars, Garmin and related companies still sell standalone GPS’s. Can probably find used ones online too and update the map data on them.

You’d think there’d be a small, light device today.

I’d use a very small phone, but the screens aren’t bright enough (in my opinion), something like a Unihertz, then run the Universal Android Debloat Utility, it’s pretty good at letting you know what can be disabled.

I bought CoPilot GPS years ago, it uses locally downloaded maps.
