Isn’t this because the US reserves most of its production for domestic subsidies and strategic reserves?

Be me, a country. We need power, the electricity kind. We weight out options. If

We buy renewables from China and we build our own infrastructure that doesn’t need fuel. Solar panels last a long time, wind farms, etc. We set them up and then just have to maintain. China even shows us how. It’s cheap, they don’t have ulterior motives. Supply is stable. Overall cheaper. Not running out of wind or sun anytime soon.

We buy fossil fuels from US. We make plants but all fuel has to come from a constant supply from outside our nation. We are reliant completely on them. If supply line is disrupted we might be fucked. If we piss them off the might be fucked. The world over knows relying on US comes with a heavy price. FF are a finite resource. Causes endless wars all over the planet. Pollutes the fuck out of out local ecosystem. Is the energy source of yesterday. Investing in it only makes it harder to advance.
