Basically, I’ve talked about this story before, I had an account with almost 100k karma, I liked participating posting high quality stuff. I think it’s nice to be part of a community.
Then I posted an NSFW meme in an NSFW subreddit that triggered a bot and said “Your Post was Removed by Reddit’s filters” and I thought, Welp it’s fine I’ll try to reupload it another time, I refreshed the browser and boom, I was permanently banned for absolutely no reason.
I don’t know what the bot picked up since I literally didn’t use a bad word, I didn’t even think about appealing the ban because it doesn’t like almost ever get checked by actual human beings, It’s just a bot saying “No, we believe your ban was fair even though we didn’t check it sorry”
So what now?
Welp Reddit mostly has a 100 Day IP policy, meaning they store your latest IP you got banned with or the one you signed up, for 100 days. Even though making a new account is considered a ban evasion, It’s them sort of unofficially wink wink giving you another chance.
I do think their system is harsh because again Reddit is too big and whoever decided that it was a good idea to have an appeal system that doesn’t get checked by human beings, wasn’t the smartest guy. I think the proper appeal system would be to have some sort of a ticket and speak to a Reddit admin even after weeks, but to be fair It’s one of the biggest community centered social media so I’m not sure how that could work, but hey maybe just saying don’t ban people permanently unless for really messed up stuff, just saying.
Since then, I have changed my network I went on a new program with my ISP, not because of the ban but I basically upgraded my old connection, I have a dynamic IP and I thought why not, I’ve cleared my cookies, I’ve formatted my PC and technically, I’m in the clear already, however I haven’t made a new account yet.
I might go back
Yeah eventually I will, don’t get me wrong I do like Lemmy it doesn’t have the bullshit filters Reddit has, with Reddit I always had this feeling that if I’m too active today I might trigger a bot that thinks I’m spamming so I always had this feeling that if I do something out of the norm I’ll be banned for whatever reason, I’ve seen people getting banned for saying “Fuck ICE” so yeah.
I am a free speech absolutist, I think people should talk about their views. there were a couple of people on r/askconservative that were chill and r/politicalcompassmemes was mostly filled with edgy fascists but to be fair it was fun, because you got to read different views and I admire that in a way.
I do think there should be moderation, as is on Lemmy. I believe without moderation you could have people trying to maliciously “abuse” the system, but Reddit has to cut the bullshit bots that just wrongly flag your messages, so far with Lemmy it’s much smoother but it’s not as populated which is a big issue for me because with Reddit I used many niche subreddits.
So will I go back on Reddit? Probably yeah, am I rushing though? No.

Go back to reddit please.
Man don’t lie you know you were posting pictures of your balls.
Reddit servers had enough of my balls and couldn’t handle it
r/marbles wants their top poster back!
