I disagree, witches are rarely presented as a different species than human in fiction. That’s why they are out of category.
I don’t know that vampires won so much as werewolves lost. Or morphed into futures.
Zombies, witches, and even ghosts are still strong contenders.
Honestly, as someone who is only a mild fan of vampires and not subbed to this community… I agree. The OG Dracula story keeps coming back. Interview With the Vampire was hot in the 90s and the TV series is hot today. Twilight was… divisive… but at the very least, its vampires were interesting (each having his or her own ability), if not downright cool. Though to be fair, the direwolf transformation in the second one was the coolest part, and those werewolves had some pretty cool lore, too. It was a good matchup. But ultimately one-sided, as vampires match every advantage of a werewolf but size. Werewolves are not known for carrying garlic, wooden stakes, or fighting under the sun, and everything about vampires helps them take down werewolves.
The claim that only vampires are attractive stops at the Japanese border. Of course, anime tends to fuck everything up, but anime has cute werewolves. A film called Wolf Children, about a single mother’s struggle with two special-needs children — the special needs being that they are werewolf pups. And they are both so stinking adorable in every scene. But, they also aren’t competing with vampires at any point or in any sense. And vampires get cute, too. Let the Right One In, Interview With the Vampire, Twilight, and even Skyrim have all done adorable vampire kids, although the one in Skyrim is a direct reference to the one in Interview With the Vampire. (If you’ve never met her, she’s in the assassins’ guild, which has a very roundabout way of joining, so it’s possible some players have not met this character. If you’re a Skyrim player and you want to meet her, go to the orphanage in Riften (southeastern city). She isn’t there, but talk to the kids there and follow the quest about the kid who got away. You’ll meet “Babette” before too long — and listen to her story when you first enter the guild. It’s awesome.) (Oh, fun fact, you can also become a vampire in Skyrim. The traditional way is to get bit by a vampire, and not seek the cure or any divine blessing, which would remove it. The expansion Dawnguard gives you a much cooler way to go about it as well as quests tied to it. Absolutely worth doing once!)
Totally an unfair contest. but true nonetheless.
They replenish their youth and live eternally in the image of a normal person, never losing control. Eternal life, power, money.
Can anyone recommend a good story about witch vs vampire conflict?
I found a show called “A discovery of witches” which seems worth trying.
Explains a LOT about Beyonce’s ongoing popularity, actually.
I mean when Sam killed the Alpha that was a pretty big L for the vamps. Rowena became the Queen of Hell so witches kinda won. Werewolves got Garth so not really sure where they landed.
They are the billionaire exceptionalism of revenants.
