Marine habitats around Sark could be getting extra safeguards through a new protection order.

There are plans to create a Marine Protected Area (MPA) around Sark to give a “treasure trove” of marine life extra support.

Sark’s Agriculture, Environment and Sea Fisheries Committee said an MPA would safeguard the island’s “rich marine life” and support sustainable fisheries.

It has worked with La Société Sercquaise and the Blue Marine Foundation on plans to formally declare Sark’s waters as a “Highly Protected” MPA.
