I remember once Johnny Depp visited my country and he decided to buy like 200 hearing aid devices for kids and everyone was like “wow, the rich are so good, they are going to save us, the government is doing nothing”, but in that year alone 400k hearing aid devices were provided through the public healthcare system…
“Yeah, I’m a full on rapist.”
That’s your epitaph sorted, then! What color tombstone would you like to put it on?
Pepperoni.
Philanthropy is good, I think, on the basis that it’s never convinced people to vote against taxing the rich.
We have things like Racism and Transphobia to accomplish that goal. The hearts of men hang above for all to see, and the devil a violinist.
Philanthropy is at best a band-aid on a gaping wound. The wealth those billionaires have that enables them to donate the small amounts they do, would be better used by everyone.
And the only way to take that wealth and use it for everyone is taxation.
Taxes don’t stop the wealthy, they offshore them and hide them. Tax agencies don’t go after them as it’s too expensive.
It’s a losing battle, better to remove the system that lets them amass wealth in the first place.
If taxes didn’t work then the rich wouldn’t be fighting against them tooth and nail.
If taxes worked, the rich wouldn’t be offshoring their wealth.
Post-panama papers it’s hard to see how anyone can justify taxation as a solution.
Again, if the office in Panama were the End-All solution to taxes then Billionaires wouldn’t have Republicans gutting taxes, they’d be telling us “Everything is great, actually, I pay my share like everybody else!” But that’s not the narrative, is it? They want less taxes. They’re even talking about abolishing income taxes as a whole and having the peasants fund the federal government through tariffs.
Having Republicans or other conservatives across the globe cut taxes and regulations is so that they can amass more wealth, not because they’ve lost it.
If you don’t have to pay to offshore and hide it, that lowers your expenses.
The global trend is that the rich are getting richer, everywhere. Taxes do not stop them.
