Tbh, Discord has become heavily enshittified and false plaform-level bans would lose communication with fellow comrades. AI moderation is broken.
One of the alternatives in case someone gets falsely sitewide banned on Discord, is using Root, which is now in closed beta. I suggested about opening a Root community on their Discord server.
Why it specifically? Root is yet another closed source service, so if they also start to cause problems, moving away from it it’ll be an hassle.
I’d rather consider something like Zulip. https://github.com/zulip/zulip
At least, if there’s any issue you can just host it elsewhere.
(Other alternatives which are also open source are Matrix and RocketChat… Matrix has lots of attention, but the UX still has issues)
My2c: I don’t actively use Discord, so it should be someone who knows the importance of all features who should decide.
XMPP anyone? No?
Not to mention: Root is based in the United States, so it’s even more likely to kowtow to the same pressures that Discord would
there isn’t an option if you’re running in the us… you get a secret letter and you comply or bad things happen to you and they take over your shit or shut it down
Stoat.chat is also good
