But Blaine Mayor Mary Lou Steward says that it mostly comes down to Canadians’ trust in Americans being broken due to the tariff war and annexation threats from U.S. President Donald Trump.
“I’m realistic enough to realize that even if this administration leaves and a different administration [comes in] … the trust has been broken,” she said.
Steward believes it will take many generations before that trust can be restored and said border towns like hers should have looked at diversifying their economies years ago.
Holy shit! Someone who actually gets it!
Those are the Americans I miss the most.
I’ve got family and friends all across the US. Unless something drastic changes in the next decade, I’m never setting foot on US soil if I can help it. Every one of those people who I love and miss understand, and support that, except for one uncle…but he died shortly after the last election. I guarantee you he voted for Trump, no one really liked him.
If it’s important to them, they can come to Canada, and experience actual freedom.
A reasonable number are looking at ways to flee to either Canada or Europe. The rest are either much too poor/old, or have decided to stay and resist as best they can.
