Did any paying customers of Proton asked for AI? Like one?
I prefer Lumo over ChatGPT and use it almost daily.
Me too. Honestly. But right now it’s subsidized, and Proton lose money every time we do. And the cost will not go down with the scale. Are you going to pay hundrets of dollar every month for it? At the end it’s “slightly more convenient search engine/brainstorming tool that usualy works”. It’s not like its worth nothing. But it’s not worth the fraction of the costs it generatete and the resources it consume.
But it’s true, it’s private and it probably isn’t optymized to farm engagment over anything else, and it’s less likely that it will advice me suicide over talking with somone else than it. So yes, I prefer it over ChatGPT as well.
I pay for proton, not sure if I get the AI but I probably wouldn’t use it anyway. Would rather they improve the spreadsheet thing so I can get off Google for good
Everyone gets access to the base service and you pay separately for the advanced plan which is not included in their other service packages. I swear some people live to complain
What arey you talking about? Do you still belive in free launches? There is an opportunity cost to everything. My paid plan includ a resource-havy, going-nowhere technology that nobody was asking for, while the same resources could be spent on things that people ask for - like better gallery or better Linux support.
I don’t want my postmen to clean my windows even if he do it for free (for now). I just wonder who paid for his cleaning supplies while he’s mailbag is full of holes.

Lumo is standalone, freemium, no account or existing subscription required. It’s funded by premium users, not by your plan, nor is it part of it. Proton hasn’t increased the cost of their base services since 2023 and did so only once since their launch, Lumo launched mid-2025. Lumo’s open-source, no-logs and anonymous no account required free service is privacy-first AI done right… Always good to check your facts before applying your bias…
How was working on it founded before the first paying Lumo user?
(Edit: Also, behold the first profitable AI project in existence apparently)
It’s clearly not by increasing the price or your subscription. Why does it even concern you how it’s funded? They can reinvest their profits however they please. Next you’ll complain about their USD5M privacy charity contributions that didn’t go to the development of your package. YOU just hate everything that carries the AI tag.
I told you befor, I care becouse every spending carry oportunity cost. And yes LLMs today are a massive costs and shoveling them were they are not needed is simply a waste. Burning money level of waste. Feel free to label me with anything that allows you to dismissed my points - you do you - but I feel like I should be allowed to hate waste.
Idea that this is free is naive. Idea that it is founded by paying premium users is a lie. People asked for other things that are being ignored. Did anyone asked for that? Some non-ai haters opened ticket about it? Still feel like its an valid question.
Sorry mate, but if your only point is your dislike of their investment in an AI product that many people use and you believe you paid for, that’s not a very good one. I don’t know about you, but I constantly use AI assistants and so do many other people. It’s a good, European based product with some unique features. I don’t pay for it, and my standard proton subscription doesn’t increase in cost.
