I was thinking about it recently, another reason [beyond the other 10973 ones] I have job searching is that the stakes on each side are so different. HR person makes a mistake (assuming it’s not illegal and is blatant enough that you can actually sue) it’s “oopsie, bit of a mess up on my part” cause the stakes are that they might be mildly reprimanded at most. But if the applicant messes up (both in ways that are actual mistakes and ways that are “I said one word wrong and this neurotypical-maxxer thinks I’m a basement dweller now”) it’s “sorry, we don’t think you’ll be good for this position” and the consequences are you get to stress more about finding a job and not having an income

I finally started writing today. Like fully fledged fiction writing, that i finally found the inspiration for, and now I have to go to work. I’m genuinely angry rn I don’t wanna stop
nice! it feels to me there is a dearth of communist fiction out there, although admittedly i have only mostly read fanfiction for a longtime so maybe there is much more original communist fiction compared to fanfic which for whatever reason seems to have a particularly high concentration of shitlib/radlib works (not to mention ive found way more outright fascist work than communist fanfics!)
There is a genuine lack of communist fiction. There are some anti-capitalist and anti-corporations fictions as ultra-capitalist dystopias, typically cyberpunk stuff, and the occasional post-scarcity sci-fi setting that is communist in all but name, but there is barely any explicitly communist fictions.
I’ve been thinking for a while that we should make a list of leftist novels (and other medias), pin it somewhere, like in a dedicated community, or in the sidebar, and regularly update it with new recommendations from comrades in the community.
It would be cool also to have more comrades writing, and have a place to post writings at. Maybe they could post short pieces in c/worldbuilding but a lemmy post wouldn’t do for longer works so it would be nice to have a dedicated place for the writers of our community to post stuff, like something similar to royalroad maybe.
it’s hard to do such fanfics when there’s not much in way of lore to build upon, especially ones concerning material and historical crises
i dont think it’s any harder than any other fiction? surely even a little shared world building is easier than coming up with all of it on your own? it’s so bad man people dont even display class struggle of like, workers coming together to strike and how the owning class deals with that? like ultimately even with a magic system i dont think should actually be that hard to display some sort of class struggle, really my complaint boils down to not only are there very view outright socialist works there are barely even any works that show class struggle in fantasy/sci fi worlds?
It’s a relatable feeling. It can be hard for me to get started writing fiction sometimes, but when I do, there are times I want to ride it out even if it’s hours cause the inspiration just starts flowing.

I fucking Hate Indonesian Instagram Man, Yes There’s lots of anti-government post and reels, which i like because our government is such a shithole lead by a US-Trained General.
However… one thing i genuinly do not like about these type of post is the amount of fucking Colonial Self-Hate mentality, oh my god, Literally go for a reel or a post about pre-republic colonial-era indonesia and there’s god awful comments saying how ‘The dutch are peaceful’ and ‘The government is covering it up’ acting like the dutch is like fucking saints or some shit. And yes they even Praised the criminal Bastard Daendels (a dutch Guy who literally implomentd brutal forced labor that got Workers Died of starvation, disease exhaustion etc.) Just because He ‘finished’ roads in One year, compare to modern indonesia infrastructure delay cause by many factors (most are corruption and incompetence i believe), i Blame on the God awful reels and shorts creators who whitewash Dutch colonial History brainwashing Indonesian Gen Z Man.
BUT… I remember stumble accross one reel in instagram, an account (anti-government one) debunk how dogshit dutch colonial era are, but unfortunatly there are still dumbass who yaps about the dutch still lot better (spoiler alert, the dutch are not saints), had an anuerysm seeing it.
While most i see is cancerous, there are… hidden… Gem, Especially with PKI (the Indonesian communist party) i feel blessed to see some few comments saying ‘communism is atheism is a propaganda’, But other than that.

Things are working. I found a guy who was going to a protest later, and gave him a few copies of the first chapter of BaR. I also introduced Parenti to someone I volunteered with.

This is a brilliant idea for disseminating propaganda! We can’t easily go around handing out whole books and most people likely wouldn’t read them if we did. But printing out a single chapter (or even part of one) and handing it out like a leaflet is much more feasible and much more likely to get someone to actually engage with the material. And hopefully if it catches their interest they will seek out the rest of the book on their own. Did you come up with the idea yourself or is it something that a group that you are involved in does on a regular basis?
Came up with it myself, not to brag. I was using this one printer and I didn’t want to print out too much. It wasn’t that it was easier to read, just that it was easier to print. I also split the pages into four using a setting on the printer that does that.
Really, I’d take influence from some Anarchist zines (yes I know Anarchists are a bit cringe) and how they are short pamphlets, with some graphics, promoting a particular idea. They seem to know printing really well.

usamerican football is so fucking gruesome. i enjoy watching sports history vids and have been trying to watch some usamerican football ones because i want to know about silly things like uniforms and whatnot and i simply cant watch a minute of gameplay without feeling my own brain rattle and cold fear drip down my spine. i cannot believe hundreds of thousands of people congregate to watch people actively kill themselves through CTEs and concussions i cannot enjoy this

I thought of it both because of CIA history of funding cartels and also as a way to flip from the bullshit claims about cartels being the reason that the US “needs to intervene” in certain countries. The US is the primary cartel and it’s the one that invaded the region in the first place.

I had mentioned my passing desire to go on tour to the DPRK (since it’s not very far from where I am now). He had said that if given the choice he would rather be shot than visit North Korea. My response was “well that’s certainly a choice” hoping he would get how rediculous he sounded. Luckily my other friend pointed out that what he said was really dumb. I then had to tell them that they literally know nothing about North Korea and that they shouldn’t blindly fall for propoganda. The conversation moved on after that, but it was an odd thing to hear someone say.

Doing research on the relations between Judaists and Samaritans, I came across this strange article:

During the reign of Emperor Zeno (r. 474–475 and 476–491), tensions between the Christian community and the Samaritans in Colonia Flavia Neapolis (Shechem) grew dramatically. According to Samaritan sources, Zeno, whom the sources refer to as “Zait the King of Edom”, persecuted the Samaritans mercilessly. The Emperor went to Neapolis, gathered the Samaritan elders, and asked them to convert to Christianity; when they refused, Zeno had many Samaritans killed and rebuilt their synagogue into a church. Zeno then took possession of Mount Gerizim and built several edifices, among them a tomb for his recently deceased son, on which he placed a Christian cross so the Samaritans would be forced to prostrate themselves in front of the tomb.
Truly baffling. You would think that a Christian would be gentle with an actual Samaritan, of all people, but perhaps the preachers awkwardly skipped over that part.
Now, I don’t want to blandly exonerate these conquerors by questioning their faithfulness. It’s unproductive (and uninteresting) to try explaining away Christian atrocities by saying that the oppressors weren’t ‘true’ Christians. On the other hand, it would be hard for anybody to argue with a straight face that these oppressors were merely following J.C.’s advice either. What interests me, above all, is tracing where these adventurer-conquerors inherited their practices… and given the history of Roman proto-imperialism, I think that I might know the answer.
Time to do some sleuthing.
