another fediverse software ? :)
Got a idea ? Write it up in comment 😍👍
As you know, we purposed you an hackathon for the fediverse. Two days is short, you may not have free time. Its goal is not speed up development and create lousy code and documentation. No.
The main idea is to form some team and contribute together on some project at the beginning of each month : wiki, translation, documentation, coding…
I hope that it will turn out as a recurring event later. :3
Why ? I believe it will attract new users, contributors to the fediverse, and i hope news people will join us…and make free software shine. I believe in free software, i believe its 4 freedoms can improve our democracy and protect users rights.
Let’s go back to the hackathon. Some may prefer a slow spaced development, they are right, it is a rock solid development. Its goal is not to replace its current development. we want to invite new people being part of the fediverse, guide them, explain them how they can contribute and slowly being part of the free software movement.
There is plenty way to contribute and i hope it will invite news contributors if we organize a recurring event. :3
- fund, donation
- coding software, mobile app
- documentation
- communication : reaching people, taking screenshoot
- reporting bugs
- squashing bug
- suggesting new ideas
- …
The fediverse is organic and follow your need. So don’t be afraid to voice your need, report bug, create poster…
so, maybe you will join us ? Is there something you want to do ? :)
I’d like to try My hand at making the list of non-automatically-federated community names admin-customisable
That would be a good first issue! You’ll probably spend more time getting your dev environment set up than coding it.
For which software ? Is there an issue already open ? :)
Thanks @snoopy@tarte.nuage-libre.fr I have implemented nomadic identity by copying sqlite.db to my laptop and going to the library :) I will probably make a post on a larger channel as soon as I can actually create posts, in the meantime apologies to all server owners for all the malformed json coming your way
There are testing communities : !testfediverse@jlai.lu or !test@lemmy.zip :)
You dont test in production?
I’m not sure to understand.
Those communities were created for people that wanted to experiment or learn theadiverse feature. I created !testfediverse@jlai.lu because i noticed we spammed meta community during Kemmy ealier day.
It allows you to spam whatever you want along instance & community rules which you can’t do in standard community. It is a way for testing federation issue. So it gives you much more freedom for testing stuff.
It was just a joke, you are not meant to test in production, Ive bookmarked your testing channels for later
Hi @snoopy@tarte.nuage-libre.fr My idea is a headless or API-first software, possibly single user, designed to be run from a VPS (or laptop with dyndns if you dont mind missing replies when its closed), using Go and sqlite which is clearly the best stack :) Hoping to just distribute one binary that you start and it does everything needed. Go gives you a lot of the hard parts of making an Activitypub server for free, like simple concurrency and loadbalancing, serialization and validation. As an idea of how far I have got, I am posting right now using curl on my laptop, but cant reply directly to comments yet.
I’m not a dev but that’s a cool project. I think you should create a post on !fediverse@lemmy.world so you can reach lot people. Don’t forget to give the above informations. :)
And i add some idea : nomadic identity from hubzilla and maybe managing several profil and sync the subcription, blockling :)
And you may want to check it out gotosocial and bonfire :) https://gotosocial.org/
Be sure to also check out https://github.com/go-ap/fedbox and projects by the same person, https://git.sr.ht/~mariusor/oni and https://git.sr.ht/~mariusor/box
Edit: there was an issue with links containing a tilde, it should be fixed now
The two links don’t work.
And you should ping @admin@scrapetacular.ydns.eu to reach him. I don’t think he/she read your reply as you answered to my comment. :)
Thanks, I did read your comment ON MY NEW APP https://scrapetacular.ydns.eu/latest I will do a proper write-up of what I learned soon.
Is anybody interested in collaborating on a new fediverse software aimed at self hosters? Its not gonna be big or professional like mastodon, lemmy or piefed
Like the software “go to social” ? Can you develop your idea ? What language would you like to use ? :)
