There are 9 referendum questions which is unusual. Normally referendums have 1 important question instead of flooding the zone.

I’ll limit my focus to question 5:

  1. Do you support the Government of Alberta introducing a law requiring individuals to provide proof of citizenship, such as a passport, birth certificate, or citizenship card, to vote in an Alberta provincial election?

The Alberta government is working on a solution to a non-problem. Following in MAGA’s footsteps on this issue. There is very little voter fraud with our current system of voters lists and wide range of acceptable ID. Adding more hurdles is an attempt to tip the balance against voters who don’t have one of the now limited list of accepted ID.

What a disgusting shit hole of a province I live in.

It’s like no one remembers all the policy decisions that the conservatives have made that lead us here, then they scapegoat immigrants so that no one looks too closely at the UCP’s decision making.

@DiabolicalBird @SomethingWentWrong I am trying really hard tokeep the hope that this is the thing that is finally too disgusting, too hard to ignore, and finally sinks them - remember Chris Alexander and Kellie Leitch announcing the “barbaric cultural practices” snitch line?

I honestly don’t know if Trudeau would have become PM without that, and the nationwide wave of disgust it created.

Most people I meet here seem to be generally resentful of immigration and turn a blind eye to the UCP’s blundering. It always comes back to “bUt ThE nDp” when pointing it out.

There is nothing too hard for people to ignore once they’ve picked their team, and frankly the cruelty is the point for a lot of them. Empathy is not a strong point for Albertans.

Don’t let this distract you from the fact that Hector is going to be running three Honda civics with spoon engines, and on top of that, he just went into Harry’s and bought three t66 turbos with nos, and a motec exhaust system.

AKA I’m about to drop an absolute tire fire of a budget on Friday, so I need to fire up the rage machine to make sure the people with double digit IQs (the voter base) are thoroughly distracted.

The answer to every one of these questions ranges from “No” to “Are you insane? Absolutely fucking not.”

How can Alberta hold a “referendum” on the Canadian Constitution? What power does a province have?

None, as a pretext to separation it’s designed to pass things that are out of it’s jurisdiction so that it can say Canada is stopping it.

The constituent should view it as a referendum on separation.
