Looks like it needs to be balance to the person’s weight and it’s clearly not fully compensated for or he’d get stuck in the air.

For this GIF, the counterweight on the other side is probably supporting about 95% of his weight. He adjusts this weight up and down off-camera for the other parts of the video. If it supported over 100% of his weight, then yes, we would never come back down.

If it was perfect, I imagine it would need to be next to a wall to push off of which would then restrict the range of motion.

Quick look at the YouTube description and it seems he made this three years ago as part of an ad for the game. Which I’m 1000000% here for. I love that game.

Welcome to Floating Is Fun! I’m happy you found us! I knew I can’t be the only one easily distracted by floaty things. I couldn’t find a community for this anywhere, so I created one.

Our posts tend to have a lot of 2D art from pixiv because they categorize well and the art community is good about giving their creators credit. For real, though, I’d like to have more real life examples of floatiness like this, but real life floating isn’t common and tracking down the origin of such a video is difficult.

Also, Lemmy likes GIFs a lot more than embedded YouTube videos. I carefully convert these using Ezgif and write my own alt text. The extra effort isn’t for everyone, but it’s worth it.

There used to be a really big version of this in the flight center at Huntsville AL. It was for 2 people and simulated moon gravity.

Whoaaa, I want to try one like that! I’ve heard of other counter-weighted harness systems like this, but I’ve never seen one in person. Stage flight rigs sort of work this way.
