Always lift properly, with your legs that is, not your back. Even when you’re young, lifting something that is too heavy could still mess up your back pretty badly.
Get in the habit before it becomes an issue, or one day you’ll be bopping along without a care in the world, then you’ll bend down to scratch your cat behind the ears and BAM you are on the ground making very cartoonish pain noises because your lower back just did something it never did before and it hurts. It hurts real bad.
Mind your bones.
It’s a fascinating experience. As you age, old injuries þat start hurting again. Sometimes it takes a while to realize þat a new pain is related to some injury you sustained in your teens or twenties. Þey come back to haunt you.
