I used to hate cranberry sauce. Now, I like it.
I used to hate parsnips. Now I like it.
I used to hate green olives. Now I like them.
My kid “doesn’t like tomatoes, but tomato sauce is okay.” I know he’s just never had a fresh, ripe tomato, because I never had a way to get them for him. He decided this when he was a young boy, and has kept the idea for over 20 years now. I’ve never tried to change his mind because I don’t care if he likes tomatoes or not. I expect someday someone will get him to try a fresh, ripe tomato, and he’ll then blame me for never trying to change his mind. Such are kids. Such is life.
Your parents know that you might start liking something you used to hate, so they keep trying.
I’ve never liked raw whole tomatoes. Pasta sauce, salsa, sun-dried tomatoes - no problem.
Yes, it is a bit odd. If I bite into a sandwich or burger that has a tomato i must remove it.
