How Google Tracks Everything You Do and How to Stop It
Evading google instructions posted on … a google platform
This really belongs in /programmerhumor
would be nice to get an invidious link at least, since google owns youtube and clicking this will help google track me.
Google already saw you here before clicking, because of the embedded video frame. Your browser went and fetched the video preview image from youtube-nocookie.com, showing your IP address and browser fingerprint to Google, unless you have a blocker in your browser so that the preview wasn’t loaded.
That would be true, if I had not been using custom filters in ublock and extensions that automatically change youtube links to invidious when opened. But additionally, you are kind of making my point. Don’t post clickbait about privacy and then have that clickbait link be one that invades ones privacy. It’s a rude thing to do. Lots of people don’t understand all the mechanisms that work behind the scenes to implement this kind of tracking and they may have clicked here to learn more, only to have been further exploited. So really this video should be on peertube. Since apparently that is too much to ask, at the very least drop an invidious link, or just don’t post this shit at all.
I’ve degoogled my phone. ShiftPhone with e/os But I still don’t have a good maps app. Google maps is so efficient and easy to use. I now have 3 map apps to try to see which is best for what (waze for riding my motorbike, petal maps for other transport methods, and the pre-installed e/os map app for looking up locations without navigation)
What is the degoogled alternative to Google maps? One where I have the local public transport in my region, it has the option to find places and businesses without the address and it gives me turn-by-turn navigation for car, and bicycle???
I use CoMaps.
Waze is owned by Google.
im on grapheneos and i have to use waze because its just so much better ugh.
Organic maps. Maybe, not sure about bicycle.

OsmAnd is great if you need ALL THE FEATURES. It kicks butt for bike stuff and anytime you need unusual features like a GPS-based speedometer or seeing exactly what types of bike lanes you’ve got available. Also the radius ruler is awesome for quickly measuring distances.
Comaps is good if you’d rather something a little slicker and simpler, more like proprietary map apps.
Finding businesses might be an issue or it might not, depending on whether they’re listed on OpenStreetMap (which basically all open source map apps use, and it’s great for everything other than business search). Apple Maps has a web version now!!, it’s quite limited but it still has business search, so it’s handy for that. You can then pop the address into your normal maps app for navigation.
Yeah I didn’t like that I couldn’t find my doctor’s address on osm. I usually like using it and there was a time where I used osm editor and street measuring apps to support the map.
HERE WeGo is a proprietary European map app.
First aid for Google Maps addicts: GMaps WV, a Google Maps wrapper that doesn’t require logging in.
