Anybody here use Vivaldi browser? I tried it out recently and liked it. Built in ad blocker, built in VPN, built in rss reader. Wondering what people are using in general to avoid U.S. corps?
I’ve used Vivaldi for years. Fantastic alternative.
I just use *fox with uBlock.
Even better Waterfox or Librewolf with UBlock
I use waterfox, I had the asterisk to say it applies to the derivatives as well.
👌 💫
Huh? So do they have a contract with YouTube or are they actively fighting the ads? If the latter, will YouTube not continue to fight them with the same nasty things it does to existing ad blocking techniques like slower videos, jittering, random video crashes, or just pop up messages that won’t go away?
It is unilateral. They have no contract with Google. Google is expected to fight back. I use various hardened Firefox forks on all my devices and mostly Nextpipe for YT, so I don’t much care, but that’s the background.
I’ve been using Brave as my YouTube only browser, other than the occasional 2-3 second delay in starting a video with the “experiencing interruptions?” message, it’s been pretty flawless for the last few years.
Or watch Youtube without Google on FreeTube https://freetubeapp.io/
You can import all your YT subscription in the app locally and without any login.

I heard bad stuff about ddg browser
It’s still 100000x better than Chrome.
I wouldn’t use it, personally, but it is very accessible and easy to install. I would not hesitate to praise “regular” users for discovering and using it.
any browser is better then chrome (maybe even operagx)
There at least was this thing in the past that lets me question their good intent (and/or competence): https://www.derstandard.de/story/2000118461444/privacy-browser-von-duckduckgo-plaudert-besuchte-webseiten-aus
(only in German)Besides that, it is still a private Company that has to find ways to fund itself, so might have an intent to not always prefer the less-profitable option that would be better for the user.
I use their search engine, but would not consider the browser as there exist less commercial and less restricted alternatives (mainly FF and its derivatives)
still much better then being a public company
