    ukraine was never supposed to win the war. it was always a war of attrition to break the russian economy and government

        I think they are… It’s a reference to the common phrase that NATO and the EU are willing to “fight the war to the last Ukrainian” by egging the Ukrainians on to fight and scuttling any chance for peace.

        Yes. What TrashcanOfIdeology said. The west is very happy for countless Urkanians to die, so long as it mildly inconveniences Russia for a minute or two.

      I know the phrase from I.F Stone’s book Hidden History of the Korean War. In that instance, much like Ukraine, any glimpses where Peace Talks could have been useful were sabotaged.

      Maybe the phrase has a longer history, someone else might have an older example
