An army will proportionally increase in size relative to the population. In 1945 the US population would have been 139,928,165 people, with the US military at 16,000,000. Today the population is 336.58 million people, with 1.6 million in the military.
In other words the US has had a larger military than it had in WWII for every year since WWII for some fucking reason.
