The big issue I would have with Google Health that the article does not address is whether or not it sells/markets your health information.

I use iPhone, and my wife uses Android (Samsung). She got presented with a choice a couple years ago: Samsung straight up said “allow us to sell your health data to marketers and whoever else wants it, or delete all your data.” She went with the latter. Especially with all the drama around period trackers and whatnot. She’s never gotten an abortion, but didn’t want her data used by people like that.

On iPhone, of course, all the Health stuff is kept private. Not saying it’s overall better (I like the keyboard and home screen customisation better in Android, particularly with Gboard and Nova Prime) but it is private and that’s kind of important.

I’ve been looking into private health apps on Android, and there are a few of them, and some of them have tens of thousands of users with Google Play ratings with 4.5 stars or more on average that have been around for years, but it doesn’t seem like there’s one cohesive private ecosystem there. So we know Samsung Health is not private — I honestly have no idea about Google Health (or even if that’s available on Samsung phones).

We don’t know it, though. All we know is they collect it. Let’s not get ahead of ourselves. The most cynical Apple critics are waiting for the other shoe to drop, but it hasn’t dropped yet.

What I think is not the same as what I know. Also, selling ad spots isn’t the same as selling personal data. Just because one smartphone OS developer does both does not mean that the two are necessarily connected.

Source: the people who’s interest is to collect and sell as much user data as possible with or without the user’s consent

How can people be this gullible…
