NBC News projects that Nixon, a state lawmaker, defeated Alex Vindman for the Democratic nomination and will face GOP Sen. Ashley Moody in the general election.

I’m happy she won the primary and cautiously optimistic about the general. It is Florida, there’s been a big wave of reactionary migrants from other states and the conservative DNC isn’t going to offer jack shit to support a progressive, DSA-backed candidate. There’s a lot of work still to be done to expand her grassroots support and ensure a high voter turnout.

Florida’s elections are fully rigged, and there is no way that Florida MAGA will allow a DemSoc to be their Senator.

She’s a member of the Democratic Socialists of America, no?

Being a member is different than being endorsed by a chapter, which is different than being endorsed by national. You don’t have to be a democratic socialist to be in DSA, you could be an anarchist, ML, or even an NPIC liberal and still be in DSA. In her case, she joined in the past few months and has never been to a meeting from what I heard through the grape vine.

In the interview, she plainly states she is not a socialist and disavows most of the National DSA platform.

Doesn’t matter. The more the right associates those words with better candidates, the better.

Except she just dropped half her platform, the socialist part.

Well of course she’s not, Democratic socialists are not socialists. They are capitalists who believe in Band-Aids.
