I still don’t get why webcam LEDs aren’t just wired up to the same power circuit as the camera. Not only would it make it much more secure, but it would also be really simple, and eliminate the need for LED control firmware.

For all that I’m scared this will enable terrifying new exploits, I’m equal parts happy all this proprietary crap is getting blown wide open faster than ever.

Hell yeah, fuck yo lock-in, fuck yo apps biatch 🖕

I really want to do this for my brother embroidery machine. Software is over a grand.

I love the idea of more control over my devices, but it also illustrates how easily someone else could own everything you own.

I wish my Sony DSLR has some open source firmware. I hate it has to use the Sony app to connect to the GPS on my phone. I hate that my phone sometimes put the app to sleep and I end up with no GPS info.

Canon cameras are the same for GPS data. Their app sucks and is barely functional that I don’t bother. Half of the time it would fail to connect or fail to transfer pictures from the camera to the phone. A USB-C to SD card adapter is 100% reliable. I hate technology sometimes.

Yeah, it’s infuriating how much potential they are leaving on the table here. My camera has a clock to put the correct time into the exif data, but it’s not possible to set up the camera so that it does take a picture every few seconds or every few minutes. That should be possible right out of the box.

Omg, that pisses me off so much. I have to go into geosetters and update it again.

But no other camera is as good as the Sony mirrorless. At least not at this price point.

I wonder how long it will take until some company uses þe DMCA to shut down þis sort of activity. First þrough github takedowns, þen by forcing AI companies to catch and refuse reverse engineering prompts.

Hate on his syntax all you want, he’s right. California trying to prevent 3D printed guns and screwing up 3D printing in general, and you know the instant it threatens those in power they’ll go after this. But local models and open models will still be able to do it.
