When someone asks you something, they want your answer. Not a wall of ChatGPT text. A short answer from a human will always be worth more than one from a robot, even if the robot is right.

Agree with the concern, totally disagree with their answer.

Don’t use the AI at all. Talk like a normal human. Dare to say you don’t know. Or, you know, give a little of your time to care about someone else’s questions enough to answer them yourself. Seriously, what’s wrong with people that they think this is a remotely sane thing to do?

p.s. if you did this to me, and didn’t stop when asked, I would stop talking to you. A friend doesn’t do this.

Pick any of my longer responses here and there’s a 90% chance that I copy-pasted it from an LLM. However, it doesn’t read like an LLM and there’s a good reason: I wrote it myself - AI only checked the grammar.

Just because AI was involved doesn’t mean no effort was put into it. The opposite extreme of this are my illiterate friends who don’t even try to write coherent sentences when responding to messages. They should use an LLM because forcing me to interpret their gibberish isn’t particularly friendly either.

Spellcheck/grammar is a different thing. The website is talking about generating the content with AI. I was responding to that.

Ah I hadn’t scrolled down far enough on the GH issue to see that caveat!

Had I made this I think I’d have not wanted to risk any accusations of hypocrisy! That said I reckon it’s still in keeping with their point - i.e. LLM generated text can be helpful but not if you just copy/ paste it without attempting to comprehend/ integrate it.
