Curious if proton routes emails like gmail? What I mean by that is on gmail you can create myemail+test@gmail.com and it will route to myemail@gmail.com
So my question is, does proton do the same?

FYI it’s called “plus addressing”
If you’re a paying proton customer you can also use simplelogin.io for free to use email aliases. It generates a unique email address and forwards it to your inbox. You can reply and everything and it’ll show up as coming from the alias.
I’ve had less issues with it than plus addressing ( where I’ve had sites deny the email because of the +… In the email ).
This functionality is also built into Proton Pass.

Plus addressing is a standard feature of email. It allows you to add arbitrary text after the user name. This can be useful in a variety of ways like sorting or identifying the source of the email. I use it sometimes when I sign up for a random service. It’ll let me know they shared my email with a third party if I get emails from other sources with the same +text. Only works for that if they are too lazy to strip the +text, though.
OK so similar to Proton alias, except less cryptic addresses to enter
The idea being you can use it like an alias, so if you give youtube the address of “myemail+youtube@gmail.com” then when you get unsolicited spam emails addressed to “myemail+youtube@gmail.com” you know which service sold your information. Probably also makes it easier to sort the inbox based on where it is addressed

I use Proton and i don’t know if that same functionality exists, but it does have a dedicated service for aliases that automatically forward back to your inbox so you just make an alias for a given use case and use that without exposing your actual email address, then if it gets too spammy you can delete the whole alias and never receive the spam addressed to it.
