Art is worth spending money on. Oligarchs are not. Don’t muddy the waters and remember who the real enemy is.

I thought fascists were supposed to be the ones who deride art as frivolous and decadent?

In case anyone is curious, the group is not wealthy. The project materials were funded through a grant, a crowdfunding round, and several fundraising events. The labor was 40+ volunteers. (And you know they weren’t able to sell the piece after, since it’s gone now.)

According to the lead artist, they hope to inspire people to collective action by demonstrating how much we can achieve by working together.

How was the sculpture evaluated to that number though? If it’s all otherwise discarded pallet wood, is it just the hourly rate and time spent on making it that makes it that price? Or is it one of those rich guy tricks where you buy a cheap painting and have someone evaluate it for millions, then donate it to charity for a fat tax write-off scam?

I get that’s not the point of the meme, and I agree that funds a wildly mis-allocated.

The word budget in the screenshot means the money spent to build rather than value.

From the article: “A $47,000 Kickstarter campaign helped fund the project, which was estimated to cost about $265,000 total.”

No clue how they came up with their cost estimate though… The others on the list only give the crowd funded portion of the cost except for Uchronia which says it cost 800k and also doesn’t explain how that estimate was reached. It was also burned.

Eh, one of the wonders of humanity is that we are full of such complexities, we can laugh when horrified, cry when happy, make jokes to survive terrors.
